Mount Langley Summit Trek (14,026ft) [3 Day]
From the high trailhead near Horseshoe Meadow, the route begins gently through open pine forest and sunlit meadows before climbing toward Cottonwood Pass in Inyo National Forest. Early miles feel relaxed and spacious, with soft footing and wide views that make the elevation gain almost unnoticeable. Beyond the pass, the landscape opens into rolling alpine tundra and broad granite benches, where the sky feels bigger and the terrain quieter. Marmots whistle from the rocks, and the trail wanders across the plateau like an invitation rather than a challenge.
The final climb up Mount Langley is steady and airy, trading forest for sweeping panoramas of the Owens Valley and the high Sierra crest. The summit isn’t a sharp peak but a wide, sandy rooftop—more like standing on the top of the world than on a single point. It’s a long day, but the gentle grades, huge views, and sense of wandering above treeline give the hike an almost dreamlike, high-country feel.
